Uhhhh, on second thought, it's what we first thought.

From today's Sporting News Today:

"FOX and Burger King apologized for a cartoon that aired during FOX NFL Sunday this week, showing Cowboys players mocking singer Jessica Simpson for getting 'bigger than Flozell Adams,' The Dallas Morning News reported. Simpson used to date Dallas quarterback Tony Romo. 'Upon reflection," FOX said in a statement, 'our poor attempt at humor was insensitive, and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended.'"

I am sooooo tired of the "better to ask for forgiveness than permission" PR style so rampant nowadays. Does anyone really believe for a second that the advertisers had no idea until it was brought to their attention that making fun of an American female celebrity for gaining weight was going to cause them grief? I'd wager a hefty bet that the apology was probably written at the same time as the script for the ad.

If you're going to run PC gauntlet, tasteless though you may be, at least put your balls out there and stand by it.
